Homemade Play-Doh

I've recently discovered a homemade play-doh recipe that I'm absolutely loving!  Can you guess where is comes from?  Yep.  Mel's Kitchen Cafe, of course. (LOVE her site!)  It's been a great activity to do with my daughter now that my boy is back in school.  It doesn't take that long to make, and the texture of the play-doh is so soft and pliable.

Homemade Play-Doh

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup salt
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon canola or vegetable oil
Food coloring
In a medium saucepan, combine the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.  In a liquid measuring cup, combine the water, oil and food coloring.  Pour the water mixture into the dry ingredients.  Heat mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until dough forms a ball.  (Don't worry, it'll get there- Promise! It should only take a few minutes.) On a lightly greased countertop, knead playdoh until it is smooth. Store the playdough in a tightly covered container or ziploc bag. Tightly covered, the playdough will keep for several months.
