Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal

When I first started doing oatmeal, I would only eat the instant packages and my favorite flavor was maple and brown sugar.  Now I won't do the instant packages, but I'd have to say maple and brown sugar is still a favorite of mine!

Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal
From: Egg Free Bakery

1/2 cup old fashioned oats
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup milk
1 Tbsp maple syrup, divided
1 Tbsp light brown sugar, divided
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp salt
Fresh fruit, like blueberries or bananas

In a microwave safe bowl combine oats, water and milk.  Add 1/2 tbsp maple syrup and 1/2 tbsp brown sugar, cinnamon and salt.  Microwave about 2-3 minutes. (make sure your bowl is big enough so it doesn't boil over, or just watch it)  Let stand for a few minutes.  Stir.  Top with fresh fruit.  Drizzle remaining syrup over fruit.  Then sprinkle remaining brown sugar on top.  Makes 1 serving.

Stove top directions: In medium saucepan, bring milk and water to a gentle boil. (Watch carefully.) Stir in oats, 1/2 of maple syrup and brown sugar, cinnamon and salt.. Return to a boil; reduce heat to medium. Cook about 5 minutes or until most of milk is absorbed, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let stand until desired consistency is reached.
